The Erfurt Investigation Committee (EA) introduces itself:

You are not alone!

As the Erfurt Investigation Committee (EA), we support you in dealing with state repression during your demonstrations in Erfurt and Thuringia. The past has shown that conflicts with the police can occur at any demonstration. Such situations often prove to be intimidating or frightening for those affected. But: You are not alone!

An EA is there to support those affected in such circumstances by telephone. We give you tips on how to deal with the police, guide you to safer places, organize legal assistance from lawyers if necessary and make sure that no one gets lost. Because an essential part of our work is to document the repressive events of the day. In this way, we keep track of who is in police custody and whether everyone has been able to leave safely.

If you are taken into custody, we try to find out where the police are taking you in order to provide legal support. The documentation of the day’s events also facilitates anti-repression work in the aftermath of a demonstration.

How to EA

We are happy to support you in making your demonstration as safe as possible for all participants. However, this requires your cooperation! The following checklist gives you an overview of the tasks involved in organizing an EA.

Parliamentary observation:

Ask your trusted members of state or federal parliament to accompany your demonstration as parliamentary observers. The mere presence of parliamentary observers often leads to the police taking a less escalatory approach. If police action is taken, members of parliament in this role are usually allowed through barriers or to people in the action by the police. This allows important information, such as allegations of crimes or other planned police measures, to be passed on to the EA.

Legal support:

The police themselves are often unsure whether their actions are lawful. Regardless of whether measures are being taken against demonstrators, routes are being changed or assembly requirements are being tightened: Solidarity lawyers – if asked in good time – are often ready to support you at your assemblies with their expertise and to put the police in their place.

Contact us:

To ensure that everything runs smoothly, it is necessary for us to maintain a close exchange with the organizing group before and during the demonstration. Therefore, when distributing your tasks, bear in mind that one of you must be scheduled as a contact person for the EA.

If you need an investigation committee at your demonstration, please send us an email, if possible in encrypted form. Setting up an EA requires intensive planning. We therefore ask you to contact us as early as possible (ideally 6 weeks before your assembly).

The more lead time we have, the better! We can currently answer your inquiries in German and English. If you contact us in another language, we will look for a translation option. This may take a few days.

More solidarity:

Don’t leave your comrades hanging during and after the demonstration. Collect money for anti-repression work, remain approachable if people are affected by repression and refer them to Rote Hilfe. Solidarity is our weapon!

As EA Erfurt, we support left-wing emancipatory struggles. That is why we do not work with groups that hold anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, queer-hostile or otherwise discriminatory positions. We look forward to your inquiries!
